Review after 5,000 km: 50 mm wheels with carbon spokes
After more than 5,000 km riding with the Farsport EVO5 S wheels, I think I can now give a complete assessment of these wheels. They are a set with a 50 mm profile , carbon spokes , and a weight of just 1,190 g . On paper they are impressive, but even more so on the road.
Lightness and rigidity: an unusual combination
Looking at such a lightweight set, one might think, "Perhaps they're not very rigid." But the opposite is true. These Farsport EVO5 S wheels are extremely rigid , both laterally and vertically.
They use 18 carbon spokes of 3.8 mm . That may seem like a small number by today's standards, but it's the perfect number to balance stiffness, lightness and comfort .
The hub incorporates a ratchet system, which guarantees high reliability , and also features impeccable machining at an aesthetic level.
Hoop dimensions: a total success
The widths—key in any modern wheel—are 24 mm internally and 30 mm externally . Thanks to this, fitting 30 mm tires is a breeze: they fit perfectly, without that "bulb" shape we all want to avoid.
The rim is hooked , so there are no complications with hookless systems or tire limitations. It's compatible with both clincher and tubeless tires. Personally, I prefer tubeless, because the extra comfort perfectly complements the philosophy of this rim.
Feelings on the road
If I had to sum it up in one word it would be: fast .
-
On flat terrain, they are just as good as wheels with a higher profile.
-
They are a real gift when going uphill: they maintain their momentum and, when it's time to accelerate, they respond very responsively thanks to their low weight.
-
On downhills they feel stable , predictable and convey enormous confidence .
Conclusion
Wheels without compromise .
Lightweight, stiff, fast, and comfortable. The price? It's also surprising, because it's very competitive for the performance they offer.
I have absolutely no complaints about the Farsport EVO5 S. If I had to buy them again, I would without hesitation. A complete success.
